Bloody Amateur
Incredible Debut album
OUT NOW ON VINYL AND DOWNLOAD
Bloody Amateur is Andy Comer. Andy founded the band Tel Aviv (Teen-Beat) in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. His next band, Prosaics (Matador), was named one of NYC’s “25 Best New Bands” by New York magazine.
Recorded by James Baluyut (Versus, +/- {Plus/Minus}), this is one of 2013’s most striking debuts. It’s a recording of dark and personal beauty-spare and assertive, intricate and electric. Bloody Amateur takes inspiration from the Feelies, Colin Newman, Felt, Unrest, the Chills, Roy Montgomery, and the Go-Betweens.
P.S. I kind of really want a Teen Beat shirt now. But which color to pick?!
All of them!

A great one.
Cotton Candy last night at the Shepherdess record release. Didn’t get a good pic of Shep but it was an amazing night. I can’t get over how much I love all these people I’ve met through Girls Rock Campaign Boston and how grateful I am to have met them, work with them and to see their creativity all the time. I wish Boston wasn’t so far from western MA.
Versus “Dead Leaves”
Unrest- Eyeball From The Socket Of Davis
Unrest wouldn’t make a masterpiece until their next album, Imperial f.f.r.r., but the album before it, Kustom Karnal Blackxploitation has it’s own weird charm. Like The Replacements’ Hootenanny, it’s interesting to hear a band just before they finally get everything right, when they’re working the final kinks out of their sound. It’s a strange album, veering from a faux-hard rock song about Kenneth Anger to a Beastie Boys parody to the perfect pop of “She Makes Me Shake Like A Soul Machine”. The strangest song is saved for last, though. “Eyeball From The Socket Of Davis” is an 11-minute spoken-word/performance piece about the auto-accident that took Sammy Davis Jr.’s eye, with Mark Robinson reading from Davis’ autobiagraphy Yes I Can as looped pianos and the occasional sound effect play in the background. It’s certainly not for every taste, but for fans of Mark Robinson or people who just wanna hear something really strange, it’s definitely worth listening to at least once.
Just to clarify, “Eyeball From the Socket of Davis” didn’t make it onto the album though it was recorded during the same session. It was added to the CD-reissue in 1999 as a bonus track.
Cotton Candy “Fantastic & Spectacular (7”)”

We’re happy to document the Fresh Fields grocery store. An important historical landmark.
